The NSLC is the only authorized seller of recreational cannabis in Nova Scotia, and customers must present valid ID at the time of purchase. It’s illegal to share or gift recreational cannabis, and it’s not for use by minors. It’s also against the law to smoke cannabis in public places where smoking tobacco is prohibited, or within 20 meters of a playground or sports or recreation facility; on or near provincial beaches or parks (with the exception of designated campsites); and in workplaces.
It’s also against the law to drive while impaired by cannabis, and it’s a criminal offense to possess or grow marijuana on school property. It’s also against the law to transport marijuana in vehicles, and it must be kept in closed, secure packaging and not accessible to anyone in the vehicle. A fine of up to $2000 can be imposed for improper storage.
